Highway 11, in the vicinity of Kona Paradise, has reopened to both directions of travel following a fatal one-vehicle crash Wednesday morning between mile markers 96 and 97, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

The highway was closed following an 8:44 a.m. crash involving a northbound pickup truck that apparently ran off the makai side of the road, according to police. The highway reopened partially about 10 a.m.

A man driving the vehicle was dead upon arrival of firefighters and rescue personnel. Police have not identified the victim, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
